Ed joined the full-time ecology team as an assistant ecologist in April 2024, after graduating from the University of Plymouth with a Masters degree in Environmental Consultancy two years prior. Since then, he has had two seasons of experience and worked as an assistant ecologist in three different consultancy firms.

During this time, Ed gained experience in bat emergence, return-to-roost and activity surveys, as well as badger, reptile, dormouse and great crested newt eDNA surveys.  He has produced reports on a mixture of small and large-scale development sites, including writing PEA’s, BNG reports and BREEAM assessments.

Ed’s Masters thesis was carried out on the Tory Brook river, situated in Dartmoor National Park, Devon and involved incorporating water quality with river ecology, analysing different macroinvertebrate community structures within the river, and observing their changes at different parts due to varying levels of acid mine drainage, subsequently showing the effectiveness of benthic macroinvertebrates as effective bio-indicators for water quality.

Ed is a qualifying member of the Chartered Institute of Ecology and Environmental Management (CIEEM) and is in the process of obtaining his Level 2 bat survey license.
